Obituary

Dr. Farrol Sims

Dr Farrol Sims, aged 82, passed away peacefully after a long illness, on Saturday, June 6, 2020.

Beloved husband of Lilian, loving father of Dr. Amanda (Michael Speyer, z’l) Sims and Dr. Leanne Sims and ‘adored’ Zeida of Jacob Sims Speyer and Joshua Sims Speyer.
He was survived by his sisters, Adele (Barry) Rudolph; Gail Muczinski and Jackleigh (Lewis) Ashberg and his sisters-in-law, Madeleine (Max z’l) Trapedo-Dworsky; Cynthia Trapedo and Eleanor (Anthony) Wertheimer, nieces and nephews.

Farrol was an academic geriatrician caring for vulnerable older adults on the North Side of Milwaukee at the Center for Senior Health and Longevity Clinic at Aurora Sinai Medical Center. He previously practiced primary care at the Aurora Geriatrics Institute at Sinai and at Johnston Community Clinic on the South Side of Milwaukee. In all of his roles, he was a valued member of the faculty physicians of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and the Aurora UW Medical Group. He had a particular talent for teaching medical students about the care of frail older patients. He was loved by his patients, their families and by the clinic staff.

Farrol was compassionate, gentle, and kind with a wonderful sense of humor. His interests were vast and varied, classical music, the arts, traveling and exploring new countries and good food. Farrol was the eternal optimistic and always took time to ‘smell the roses’.

He will be missed.

Private burial at Second Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Congregation Beth Israel Ner Tamid or the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund appreciated.

Farrol was a valued member of the Aurora UW Medical Group- geriatrics teaching faculty at the Center for Senior health and Longevity clinic at Aurora Sinai Medical Center. He also practiced at Johnston clinic on the South side of Milwaukee. His patients appreciated him and the staff at the clinic sites held him in high regard. He enjoyed his clinical practice and the teaching medical students/ physicians in training. He took care of vulnerable older adults and guided / supported their families. He was kind to the staff and to his co- workers. Farrol practiced in an under- served community for decades.
I had the opportunity to visit with Farrol just a few weeks ago. I told him that the entire clinic staff appreciated him and that we love him.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of a very good man, physician, and friend. I always enjoyed talking with him and to keep him moving when it’s time to see patients. He once told me that I can always say no to the doctors but only yes to him.Through my tears i will definitely miss doing his Secret Santa shopping. He would give me the money to buy the gifts and I would have to tell him what he bought for his person. I always loved seeing Dr. Sims and his wife together. You could tell they loved each other so much. Sending love, faith, and strength to his family

My heartfelt sympathy to the whole Sims family for your loss. I loved working with Dr. Sims at the Center for Senior Health. He was always so kind and I can still hear his laugh during many of our conversations standing in his office, which was full of magazines and books that he was always going go through. I had the task to try to organize them for him. I hope it helped him :-). He was so very proud of his family and I enjoyed hearing all the stories of his daughters and grandsons and they grew up. It was my honor to work with him and to learn from him. He will be forever in my heart.

Dr Sims was A phenomenal teacher, mentor but was even more phenomenal person. Genuine, empathetic a physician who went above and beyond for his patients. May we his students be able to carry on his legacy. May God bless him and give his family strength to bear this loss. It was a honor to be his student and later his colleague. He had so much love for his family and his grandchildren. Again he will be missed

    Dear Lillian,
Mother told me the sad news. Thinking of you and your family. Farrol–he asked me not to call him Dr. Sims–was a great friend to my parents and a courageous man whose gentle soul lives on.
