Marian June Weinberg

Marian June Weinberg

Marian June Weinberg passed away on January 3 at the age of 99.

She was born on June 10, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Abraham and Sadie Myers. She had an older brother Alfred.

Marian received her B.A. from the University of Cincinnati. During those college years she met a young rabbinical student, the love of her life. They married in 1940. As the wife of Rabbi Dudley Weinberg, she and her husband settled in various locales, most notably Boston and Milwaukee, where Rabbi Weinberg guided overflowing congregations until his passing in 1976. Marian delighted in applying her artistry to their gracious home, where they welcomed a diversity of friends and distinguished guests.

Marian was an award-winning pianist and an accomplished visual artist who displayed enduring passion and support for the arts. An avid traveler, she ventured to many parts of the globe, equally fascinated by the study of cultural treasures as by the exploration of nature and wildlife. She enthusiastically lectured on her travels and art.

In her fifties, Marian earned an M. A. in psychiatric social work at UW-Milwaukee and maintained an active counseling practice for a decade.

Although the years eventually abated such active pursuits, she remained deeply engaged with people, culture, and politics, while steadfastly expressing her gratitude for the blessings of her long life.

She is preceded by her son Avrom and survived by her children Myra and Jonathan, by daughters-in-law Ruth Ann Weinberg and Judith Rissman, and by five grandchildren and four (imminently five) great-grandchildren.

The funeral will take place at Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun, 2020 West Brown Deer Road, River Hills, Sunday, January 7 at 9:00 AM. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 2615 West Cleveland Avenue, Milwaukee.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to something that will make the world a kinder and more loving place.
